Fantasy Friday: Coolah Tops National Park, Australia
Fantasy Friday: Coolah Tops National Park, Australia.
Previously, Simon and I have daydreamed about two very unique and intriguing protected areas that we would love to one day visit. The first place was Torres del Paine in Chile and the second was Saxony Switzerland National Park in Germany.
Welcome to Coolah Tops National Park – home to several waterfalls, snow gum trees, multiple species of owls, eagles, the wallaby and the eastern grey kangaroo.
The government provides access to a list of all protected species, called ‘The Atlas’, which could be quite handy to read through when searching for photographic opportunities.
According to the official site, “You may need to spend a weekend discovering everything that Coolah Tops has to offer. There’s remote camping, so you can spend the night stargazing, or after a day of walking and mountain biking, perhaps you’d prefer to sleep soundly at rustic Bracken’s Cottage.”
Sounds good to me!
Where to Camp:
“Nestled among the tall eucalypts, you’ll find this peaceful camping area by Coxs Creek. There’s plenty of space, so find yourself a grassy patch to pitch your tent or park your caravan. Once you’ve set up camp, it’s time to explore. Why not head off on your mountain bike or walk along Coxs Creek fire trail?”
“Arriving at The Barracks campground, you’ll find a lovely shaded camping area nestled beneath the tall eucalypt forest beside a small creek. It’s a modest campground, great for little groups looking for a tranquil place to relax after a day of walking or mountain biking in the park. It also makes for a beautiful picnic spot to sit by the gently flowing creek, enjoy a hot cuppa and a bit of lunch.”
Where to Eat:
In the nearby town of Bellingen, Relish @ The Federal Hotel sounds right up our alley: “Revamped in 2005, The new Federal Hotel in Bellingen has kept the charm of the original 1900 building, but created a stylish environment now with outdoor decks, and the very popular Relish restaurant. The Federal is a great place to catch up with your mates for either a quiet drink or a meal, in a stylish but relaxed, friendly environment.”
Hmmm, a few weeks in Australia? *wink wink, nudge nudge Simon! (Simon’s Edit: I guess there is a reason this is called Fantasy Friday…)
