Many people ask me why I want to keep returning to the same place year after year and the answer is simple. Every year I find I get explore new areas of old haunts, appreciate unique light and cloudscapes, and change my perspective by standing in a new spot to take in a well-loved view. Such is the case with Kananaskis Country’s Spillway Lake – a spot we’ve driven by hundreds of times over the years, but never bothered to truly appreciate. When the usually rough waters calmed and the skies cleared, pure chance had us driving by its water’s edge just as the sun was about to set. Quickly setting up, I was able to capture a few images of tranquility and add a new landscape hotspot to my list.
