I’ve written before about my long running pursuit of photographing a long-eared owl – a species that isn’t terribly uncommon here in Toronto. While we’ve had success spotting the odd-looking owl, I’ve consistently come up short in snapping an image. Thankfully, one of our favourite local owl hotspots bumped my slump, as we found this long-eared owl sunning itself one very cold January afternoon. Though we didn’t linger for too long – not wanting to disturb the bird – it was long enough for the cold the cause the lose of feeling in my fingers for almost three days. Minus forty will do that to you I guess. Worth it? The moment the owl opened its large yellow eyes: Absolutely!
