Hobo the grizzly bear is one of Yellowstone’s more endearing famous bears and during the summer of 2013, she was the star attraction. Almost every morning we drove out to Sedge Bay it would yield a sighting and, more often than not, she would be feeding in and around Steamboat Point. Betting on a Hobo appearance became such a sure thing, that we went as far as promising Jill’s visiting colleague a close-up grizzly encounter during his early July trip (always risky time to see grizzlies). And, of course, Hobo showed up, right on cue. Many images of this young sow can be found in our image galleries, but this one often gets looked over and I don’t know why. I find its a defining shot of the bear, showcasing a perfect mix of her curiosity and vulnerability.
